Mars Exhibit

As the world’s largest space museum, the U.S. Space and Rocket Center needed an immersive, interactive exhibit designed specifically for Space Camp trainees. The goal? Simulate an unforgettable mission to Mars. The adventure begins in a launching room bathed in Earth-blue light. Campers board a flight simulator for their journey through space. When they touch down and exit the simulator, they find themselves back in the same room—but the lighting has shifted to a deep Martian red, signaling they’ve arrived. From there, the young astronauts enter a briefing room equipped with gear lockers and research workstations. After suiting up and receiving their mission assignments, they pass through an airlock and descend a spiral staircase onto the Martian surface to collect rock samples and take surface measurements. Once their fieldwork is complete, they return to the workstations to analyze their data.

Method-1 fabricated and installed nearly every structural element of this exhibit, from the custom flooring and walls to the atmospheric lighting (excluding the simulator itself and the final Mars surface terrain). Working closely with a highly collaborative client—who provided fantastic initial concepts and sketches—we brought this vision to life. As one of Method-1’s first major museum installations, this project was as thrilling for our team to build as it is for the kids to experience.
